iPhone: My new Gadget

Lightroom-Edited

Finally I get one for myself. As you all know, iPhone had a hard time in getting market share in Japan since Japan is saturated by all kind of mobile phone which suite the Japanese needs, that even Nokia’s phones are not popular here. A bad news for Apple but we are lucky that to push the sales of the phone, the iPhone carrier in Japan- Softbank is carrying out promotion campaign. I found it cheap to get myself a new toy to play with.

After two weeks, I’m still learning how to get the best out of this best invention of the year. But here is a few things that I’m enjoying with my iPhone:

1. Free tiny games from the app store like Scramble, Sudoku, Word Warp…etc.

2. Reading free e-book. And

3. Taking photos with the phone.

Ya, I’m not kidding. Although the phone’s camera is lousy (2 megapixels, without zooming), it is a pretty handy tool to get snapshot that catch my attention and want to share it quickly to the web. Inspired by Chase Jarvis, a well known photographer who post daily mobile iPhone snaps to his Facebook page and Twitter account, I’m also starts posting some snap to my Twitpic account, not daily but once in a while when I see a chance to create good photos with my phone. If you interest in finding out how to take good photos with an iPhone, please read Chase Jarvis’s blog post on 5 Tips For Making Great iPhone Photos.

Here are some of my iPhone snaps :)

Confession: I did take the shot of my own iPhone posted at the top of this post, but I have to admitted that it was a heavily photoshoped image. I try to take a cool shiny product shot as you often see in the ad, but it just cannot get it right in the camera. A few problems to overcome. First, the dusk. I took this photo one week after the purchase, so there were a lot of dusk between the cover and the body which a big challenge to get rid off. Second, shooting the LCD screen. It was almost impossible to get a clear shot of the screen. Please advice me on this if you know the tricks!!

Here is the SOOC raw image.
